Removing Barriers in UK Space Licensing: Industry Good Practice Guidance on Assessment of Environmental Effects (AEE)
Assessment of environmental effects (AEE) is a mandatory requirement of the UK’s spaceport and launch operator licensing process.
To date, the ‘how to’ of AEE has been unclear, untested, undocumented. But now, after years of detailed study, collaboration the regulator and incremental improvement, Aurora Environmental is able to share insights from the soon to be published industry-led good practice guidance, intended to sit alongside CAA guidance CAP2215.
Drawing on real project experience and lessons learned from early UK licence applications, this session will highlight key AEE expectations, clarify which environmental topics are likely to be required, and set out relevant methodologies designed to make your AEE process robust, focused and effective. Links to the guidance document will also be shared.
Key Takeaways
- As the UK space sector accelerates, so too does the need for clear, practical guidance that helps applicants navigate AEE, an essential part of responsible spaceflight
- An industry?led working group, operating under ISEP, has brought together specialists from across impact assessment and the UK space ecosystem to develop the first dedicated good practice guidance designed specifically for AEEs in the UK
- This session introduces and summarises that guidance, including hints and tips for streamlining and futureproofing AEE
