Peter Young
Peter has over 35 years’ experience in the global space sector as an industry leader and senior manager. He has acquired critical knowledge in all elements of the space value chain as well as critical experience of both large corporate players and SME’s particularly in the UK and Europe. He was CEO of Telespazio VEGA, one of the UK’s largest space services companies for over 8 years. He was concurrently Senior Vice President of Telespazio SpA’s Satellite Systems and Operations group based in Rome for over 4 years. He had full P&L responsibility for over €400m revenues and managed over 900 staff in 9 countries.
Since leaving Telespazio in 2017, Peter has built a portfolio of industry positions in the Scottish space industry including the co-founding the Scottish Space Leadership Council (SSLC) in 2016. He joined the Board of Space Scotland in early 2024 and was appointed Chair in May of the same year. He was appointed as a Member of Court at the University of Strathclyde in 2018 and re-appointed in 2024 for a further 4-year term.
He is currently Convener of the Enterprise and Investment Committee. He is deeply engaged by the challenge of how satellite data and analytics can be used to deliver real value to the increasing demand for the twin challenges of international security and for climate action and sustainability initiatives.
