Jonathan Wakeling

Jon has worked for BT for over forty years, starting as an apprentice, with over thirty years in technology research and strategy roles. He has a wide range of expertise in satellite, HAPS and wireless communications, broadband access technologies, customer demand for bandwidth and techno-economic analysis of new network technologies. Jon’s current role includes: developing new learning in fundamental physical phenomena into engineering capabilities; driving IPR generation and exploitation; evaluation of emerging non-terrestrial network (NTN) technologies and systems; developing an NTN R&D programme covering component development through to applications and services; building collaborative project proposals and teams. Jon is focusing on satellite/HAPS-terrestrial convergence and integration in 5/6G, space-ground quantum and optical communications, and helping the New Anglia LEP establish and develop the SpaceEast cluster.
